Wakeboards and Wakeboard Bindings for the Cottage

Wakeboards

Wakeboarding is an awesome sport that anyone can love if they get off one the right foot. Learning to wakeboard is a sport that anyone with a cottage on the water, as well as a boat, can do and it's fun for your friends too.

Just heed these five steps and you’ll be having good times wakeboarding before you know it.

1. Buy A Wakeboard

The critical part. If you are getting started or you want to have a wakeboard that your friends can use to check out wakeboarding, you don’t want to buy an advanced wakeboard. Very advanced wakeboards will be too difficult to control and you will fall more than you ride! Wakeboards such as the Liquid Force Trip Wakeboard are a great choice.

Ask for one that has a continuous rocker and do not get the more advanced 3-stage rocker.

For board length, you want to pick a wakeboard the matches your weight. Here are the lengths we recommend:

Weight: 90-160 Ibs.

Length: 134 cm

Weight: 160-200 Ibs.

Length: 138 cm

Weight: 200 Ibs.

Size: 142 cm or longer

2. Wakeboard Bindings

For wakeboard bindings there are closed toe and open toe. Beginners should get an open toe binding, as will people that prefer a binding that can work for a few different foot sizes.

Chose the Binding that matches your shoe size. For bindings that are listed as small, medium, large or x-large, you should try them on to ensure you get the right fit.

3. The One-Size-Fits-All Wakeboard

If you want a wakeboard and binding that you and your friends can use, or that can be left at your cottage for anyone to use, we suggest getting an average board, such as a 138 and a 9/10 binding. Just be aware that if someone has very small feet, they should consider sitting this one out rather than risk being hurt. You can also get two sets of bindings as you can quickly switch bindings on the same board.

4. Wakeboard Boats

Your boat has to be able to pull someone behind it on a wakeboard at about 17-25 mph. If you have a fishing boat with a 15hp engine, that won’t cut it!

You also need a boat that throws a decent wake and you want a connector on the back of the boat to attach a tow rope to.

5. Wakeboard Rope and Handle vs. Ski Rope

You need a wakeboard rope and handle. These don’t cost that much, so I suggest you get one. The rope and handle will last you a long time, so it's good to pay for a good one that is tangle-free and is really comfortable.
